German Language, Literature and Culture: Institutional Partnerships Worldwide (GIP worldwide) Philology – Technology – Translation 2
The DAAD-funded GIP worldwide project “Philology – Technology – Translation 2” builds on two previous phases: the partnership “Cultural Transfer in Literary, Media and Specialized Communication” launched in cooperation with the Chair of German Philology at the Faculty of Humanities of Ivane Javakhishvili State University (Tbilisi, Georgia) and the follow-up project “Philology - Technology - Translation” 2021-2023 with Brusov State University (Yerevan, Armenia).

The cooperation with Ivane Javakhishvili State University Tbilisi was established with the aim of supporting a new sub-field of Cultural Transfer with a focus on Translation and Translation studies at the Chair of German Philology. The project was extended to Brusov State University in Yerevan to pursue the following objectives:
- To further develop and modernise the BA and MA curricula with a focus on Translation in both countries, in particular through deeper integration of the German language as well as the components of corpus-linguistics, language and translation technologies into their exiting study programmes,
- To support and promote qualified early-career researchers through joint supervision of doctoral projects and research stays in Heidelberg.
The third phase of the GIP project “Philology - Technology - Translation 2” for the period 2025-2027 represents both a continuation and an extension of the second project phase. On the one hand, the successful development of expertise, curricular support and the establishment of language and translation technology resources at the partner universities in Yerevan and Tbilisi will be continued. On the other hand, the project has been extended to another partner: the Chair of Translation and Slavic Studies at the State Pedagogical University in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine.
Building on the experience gained in the previous phases, the aim of this project phase is to strengthen the newly joined partner institution in the field of German studies both in terms of teaching capacities in relevant areas of specialised and media translation, interpreting and corpus linguistics. In addition, language and translation technology resources for the German–Ukrainian language pair will be developed. Doctoral projects will continue to be supported and jointly supervised. Within the framework of the project, BA and MA students from the three partner institutions will also spend research and/or academic stays in Heidelberg throughout the project period and will be enrolled as short-term students.
To achieve these objectives, numerous training courses as well as workshops and colloquia will be held in Heidelberg, Tbilisi, Yerevan and, at a later stage, in Kryvyi Rih.
